ORRELL ARCHERS

Orrell Archers News JUNE 2010

HELP NEEDED!

Sunday, 27 June 2010 – Lancashire Junior Championships will be held at Wigan RUFC and help will be needed on Saturday to set up the bosses and on Sunday to change target faces, move bosses, collect scores, etc. Most of our own juniors will be shooting so the field party will have to be seniors. Anne and Shane will be catering . The shoot will start at 9.45 am and archers will probably arrive an hour before that.

Sunday, 4 July 2010 – St Joseph’s Church, Wrightington, will hold their usual summer fete and have again asked us to do a ‘have-a-go’. This makes money for the club and the Church is very welcoming and supportive. They would like us to start at 11.30 am so that people can stay on after their morning service. Could you please let me know if you can come and whether you can be there for 11.30 am – we could split the session so that some could do the start and some take over after lunch.

Saturday, 10 July 2010 – Mediaeval Fair at St Thomas the Martyr Church, Upholland, from 1 to 4 pm. They would like either a presentation of equipment and someone to talk to about archery or a have-a-go. Could you please let me know if you are interested in going.

Sunday, 22 August 2010 – The first Orrell Archers Open FITA 720 and Head-to-Head tournament at Wigan RUFC. The morning session will be 6 dozen at 70m, followed by the head-to-head elimination rounds. We will need a field party to set up the field on Saturday and be there on Sunday. Our own members can enter but are asked to help on the Saturday and we need some members to help with changing targets and looking for arrows.

There will be two cups in memory of John Ryding and trophies will be presented by Mrs Mary Ryding accompanied by John’s mother. The trophies have been donated by Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust and will be for recurve archers. Stan and Geraline Wright have kindly agreed to donate a third trophy, which will be for one of the compound archers and a fourth trophy will be for the other compound winner.

BIKERS AND RUNNERS

There will be no shooting on Friday, 2 July, when the bikers come for the weekend.

The Phoenix Runners will be on the field on Wednesdays 14 July and 11 August and opportunities for shooting will be limited.

The Rugby Club have agreed that archers can shoot on Sunday evenings in lieu of evenings missed.
